![]() The user interface may not be as 'pretty' as other's but I wonder if the results are. Seems there is not going to be a "Free lunch" for me regarding a sharpening app so I may as well give Focal Blade another good hard look. So, what I was looking for was a good one size fits all type program. There is a good write up about Focal Blade in Luminous Landscape (it's an older article though which may suggest that Focal Blade may have been ahead of it's time compared to others). Among its best features are adaptive exposure, detail enhancement without boosting noise, the ability to deal with exposure and details together or separately, adaptive color technology, and subtle adjustments. I decided to do a quick Google and I see that Focal Blade is still available and has been upgraded with the times (64 bit) AND is now available as a plug in for many programs including LR and/or as a stand alone. Topaz Adjust This plugin adjusts contrast, details, and color. I had hoped/assumed that there should be by now a program that can do a sufficient job of determining all that stuff for itself and provide a high enough quality (but not the absolute best of course.that would only be attainable by precise hands on control) results. ![]() I do realize the differences/requirements for sharpening fine details as opposed to medium and coarse, and selective/global sharpening and so forth. I recently read a Light Room 5 book and in it the "Sharpening How To's" section barely scratched the surface of what I remembered of Focal Blade years ago. Doesn't mean I always followed the righteous path of sharpening (lazy). ![]() I've known of and understood about 1, 2, and, 3 stage sharpening since then. I started using that program 10+ years ago. In the days of Photoshop I had used a plug in called Focal Blade. I stated that I once used Photoshop but not anymore.part lazy part too cheap to play the constant upgrade game. I have been following this thread closely and looking at your suggestions. ![]()
